A mosaic course is the perfect activity for a team building event. It is creative, relaxing and promotes teamwork, cooperation and communication in an artistic environment. In Murano, with its artistic and cultural tradition, we offer a mosaic workshop where local artisans will teach you the techniques of this activity.
Including an educational part, where the craftsman explains the basics of mosaic followed by a hands-on activity, could make the experience both educational and fun. It is also a great opportunity to leave participants with a tangible memory of the mosaic workshop experience.
The benefits of team building to increase knowledge, participation and cohesion between the various participants are well known and need to be brought back into the corporate environment to achieve better coordination between the various departments.
The activity we propose takes place in a historic glass factory in Murano, where the staff trained in this type of activity and the welcoming environment make it unique for the mosaic course.
Mosaic workshop Technique for Team Building in murano
Mosaic is a painting technique widely used in the ancient world and in the East, which consists of combining small pieces of marble or glass called “tesserae”. This technique was particularly appreciated in Alexandria by the Greeks and Romans, who used it to create floor and wall coverings.
The process of making a mosaic today is the same as it was in ancient times: on a layer of fresh stucco, after tracing the design to follow, the small or large mosaic stones are placed. The tesserae are glued together with cement or a special mastic to make the object lighter, exactly as you would do in a modern mosaic workshop.
For team building, a mosaic course is proposed with the choice of a wooden base with different types of plaster, where coloured Venetian murrine applications of different sizes are then inserted, depending on the size of the base.
Participants can adapt the basic drawings by changing colours, tiles or details according to their preferences or what the group wants to express. This allows room for individual creativity while maintaining a guideline.
By placing the mosaic tiles according to the chosen pattern, each participant or group can reproduce the chosen design.
In the mosaic course you will be given a selection of images to choose from and turn into a mosaic. These could be images that represent a company value or a team concept to make the project more meaningful, much like a mosaic workshop.
Examples of the blank images that we will be using:
Geometric shapes composed of flowers or natural motifs such as stylised leaves, the sun or sea waves. Symbols such as hearts, stars or arrows: Stylised designs such as simple animals (fish, birds), flowers or trees.
In this way, participants can concentrate on choosing and composing the colours and tiles. They have a visual guide to help them.
The finished product does not need to be baked. At the end of the course, participants will receive the object they have created in the mosaic workshop.
The construction time for a base is approximately 45 minutes per person.
